Ben & Lucy Armstrong: Co-Founders

Hello, we’re Ben and Lucy, and we’re proud to be Cumbrian born and bred, having called the Lake District home our entire lives. As co-founders of Save By Switching, we’re passionate about helping our community navigate the cost of living crisis and achieving financial stability - a goal we set for ourselves after tying the knot in 2023, taking small but meaningful steps toward a more secure future.

Like many working parents, we know the hustle of balancing busy lives, often with little time to savour the small moments. That’s why we’re dedicated to helping our customers take that first step - or the next step - toward their financial goals, just as we’re doing for ourselves. Being deeply rooted in Cumbria, we’re actively involved in our local community; teaching at the local primary school for the last 12 years, volunteering at our Village Hall and serving on our Parish Council and Play Park Committee. When we’re not working, you’ll find us making the most of the stunning Lake District with our family, staying active and soaking up the beauty of our lifelong home.

Having called the Lake District home for the past 12 years, I’m deeply proud of our Cumbrian roots and passionate about helping our community tackle the cost of living crisis. With my background in website design and marketing, I’ve spent years helping businesses connect with their audiences, and now I’m bringing that expertise to get you the best savings on essential services.

Beyond Save By Switching, I’m Cumbria’s Community Ambassador for Movember, where I channel my energy into raising awareness and funds for men’s health - a cause close to my heart. When I’m not working, you’ll likely find me enjoying life with my young family and our mischievous dog, Barney, who keeps us laughing. When I get a moment to myself, I’m usually glued to the latest Formula One race.

Our Gas and Electric supply is sourced and delivered directly to the customer, no third parties are involved. We utilise Open Reach infrastructure combined with our high speed router configuration to provide our fastest available broadband. Our SIM-only plans are powered by the EE network to give our customers the most reliable mobile connection. We also offer competitive insurance options and mobile handset upgrades to ensure cost-effective, tailored solutions for the customers needs.

The ‘Welcome Bonus’ is exclusively for homeowners who switch their services through us. The bonus varies from £50 – £150 depending on the amount of services that are being switched. The bonus is credited to your cashback card each month, in increments of £50, helping you save on everyday purchases and earning cashback on every purchase made through the card.

Savings vary from household to household and depend on factors such as your current provider, tariff, usage and location. We do not promise specific saving figures. Instead, we review your current services and provide a clear comparison so you can decide whether switching offers better value for your situation.

In some cases people reduce their monthly outgoings, in others the benefit may be convenience, simplicity, or bringing multiple services under one supplier. Our role is to help you make an informed decision, not to pressure you into switching. 

Yes, early termination fees for Gas and Electric are covered and are handled directly by our dedicated switching team. For Broadband and Mobile services, we provide up to a combined £400 credit to offset any exit fees, including those for Gas and Electric, ensuring a smooth and cost-effective transition. This offer only applies to homeowners switching 3 or more services through us.

With Save By Switching you have the opportunity to recieve cashback rewards through our provider and earn 1% minimum on all purchases, with major retailers like Asda, Sainsbury’s, Netflix, Amazon Prime, B&Q, Argos and many more offering 3-5%, with some selected retailers offering up to 10%. All cashback earned is automatically deducted from your next month’s utility bill, boosting your savings beyond the initial benefits of switching. Additionally, existing customers can earn a £50 reward for each new customer they refer. This reward is deducted from your following month’s utility bill, further reducing your costs. If referral rewards exceed your bill amount, the excess is credited to your account for future use.

After you have requested a free quotation, discussed and agreed to switching providers for your selected services, our dedicated switching team takes care of the rest. Energy (gas/electric) and broadband is all done behind the scenes by our team. With mobile switches, you will be required to obtain a PAC code in order to keep your number when switching. We can talk you though this process if needed. We aim to have your energy switch complete in 2-5 days with no interruptions to your supply. Broadband switching can take up to two weeks to switch. Once you have received your new SIM and provided the PAC code if needed, the switch usually take 1-2 working days.

Our services are offered nationwide and savings are consistent across all geographical locations within the UK. A key benefit though is face-to-face appointments in Cumbria, though not required, as we also provide convenient online and video call consultations. We’re actively securing partnerships with local businesses and charities to give back, creating a more financially secure and sustainable Cumbria.
